WASHINGTON, D.C. — (October 12, 2026) — Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C., residence of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar early Monday, escalating a criminal investigation involving one of President Donald Trump’s most outspoken political opponents just weeks before the November midterm elections.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) carried out the court-authorized search as part of an ongoing Justice Department investigation. Federal authorities confirmed the operation but have not publicly disclosed the full scope of the inquiry.

Multiple news organizations report that investigators are examining immigration documents connected to Omar’s arrival in the United States from Somalia during her childhood.

Omar Accuses Trump of Political Intimidation

Omar responded defiantly, accusing the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement to intimidate political opponents.

The Minnesota congresswoman, who has repeatedly challenged Trump’s immigration policies, described the search as another escalation in their long-running political confrontation.

“I will not be silenced,” Omar declared.

Omar has consistently rejected longstanding allegations concerning her immigration and marital history. No criminal conviction or finding of wrongdoing has been established by Monday’s search.

Federal Raid Raises Questions Weeks Before Midterms

The timing of the operation is already generating political controversy.

With the November 3 midterm elections approaching, the search places renewed attention on Justice Department practices concerning politically sensitive investigations near Election Day.

Federal prosecutors traditionally exercise additional caution when investigative activity could affect an election. However, that practice does not automatically prohibit court-authorized searches during an election season.

Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, is seeking reelection and remains a prominent progressive voice on immigration, civil rights and federal policy.

The Justice Department has not publicly announced criminal charges against the congresswoman in connection with the search.

This is a developing story. JRL CHARTS LGBT Politics USA will continue following the federal investigation, Omar’s response and the political fallout ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
