WASHINGTON, D.C. — (July 13, 2026) — The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, has announced a $15 million electoral campaign aimed at electing pro-equality candidates in eight highly competitive U.S. House districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The initiative is designed to mobilize LGBTQ+ voters, allies and equality supporters in races that HRC believes will have a significant impact on the future of federal LGBTQ+ protections, civil rights legislation and congressional policy.

LGBTQ+ Equality Becomes Central Theme
HRC says the campaign comes as LGBTQ+ Americans continue to face legislative and legal battles across the country involving transgender rights, anti-discrimination protections, access to healthcare, education policies and broader civil rights issues.
The organization says electing candidates who support equality measures is essential to protecting existing legal safeguards while advancing legislation that expands civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ communities.
Battleground Districts Could Shape Congress
Rather than spreading resources nationwide, HRC will focus its investment on eight competitive House districts where close races could determine control of Congress.
The organization plans to combine:
- Grassroots voter outreach
- Digital advertising
- Community organizing
- Volunteer mobilization
- Voter education
- Get-out-the-vote initiatives
HRC believes these efforts will increase voter participation among LGBTQ+ Americans and equality-minded voters during the November elections.
HRC: Representation Matters
Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson said the organization views the 2026 midterms as one of the most consequential elections for LGBTQ+ Americans in recent years.
According to HRC, the campaign is intended to support leaders who will defend civil rights, oppose discrimination and promote policies that create equal opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
Why the 2026 Midterms Matter
Political analysts expect control of the House of Representatives to remain highly competitive, making outside advocacy organizations like HRC increasingly influential in close congressional contests.
For LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, the stakes extend beyond individual races, with the outcome expected to influence future debates over nondiscrimination protections, healthcare access, education policy and broader federal civil rights legislation.
