AUGUSTA, ME — (July 8, 2026) — Graham Platner, the Democratic nominee in Maine’s U.S. Senate race, announced in a video posted to X that he is “suspending campaign operations” after a series of scandals escalated into rape allegations that he continues to deny.

Platner posted an 11-minute video on social media, telling supporters that while his name may remain on the ballot, the movement behind his campaign “belongs to the people of Maine.” He also insisted that the sexual assault allegations against him are “all false.”

Rape Allegation Triggers Campaign Freefall
The breaking point came after Jenny Racicot, a Maine resident and former girlfriend of Platner, accused him of sexually assaulting her. Racicot spoke to Politico and later described the alleged incident during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, saying she viewed what happened as rape.
Platner has repeatedly denied the allegations.
The accusations followed earlier controversies involving resurfaced offensive Reddit posts, allegations of troubling behavior in past relationships, and scrutiny over a tattoo associated with Nazi imagery that Platner later had covered.
