President Donald Trump made history this week when he became the first sitting Republican president to issue a public affirmation of LGBTQ individuals and vowing to protect them from discrimination if they’re working for the federal government and/or federal contractors.

Before and after the election, President Trump called gay marriage “settled” law as a result of the 2015 Supreme Court ruling that gave same-sex couples the constitutional right to marriage. This of course sent off a fire storm among religious conservatives but Trump stuck by his guns in affirming his protection of LGBTQ workers by saying.. “I’m fine with that.”

However critics of the president fear that the president’s administration have been leaking to the press conflicting signals on the issue especially with the Religious Freedom Executive order that has been floating in Washington over the past week.

A leaked copy of a proposed four-page executive order has been circulating among advocacy groups and members of Congress, sending out more read flags among LGBTQ groups.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer during Thursday Daily Briefing, said “there is nothing new on that front” but did say.. “there are a lot of ideas that are being floated out.” said Spicer.

With hardcore conservatives under the illusion that they have a mandate from the religious right, be sure that we will see legislation targeting LGBTQ citizens in state and national legislation.
