Ryan Michael English

Ryan Michael English is a Massachusetts resident who was sentenced to 73 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges connected to a plot to assassinate Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at the U.S. Capitol.

English, who is transgender and has also been identified in reporting as Riley Jane English, surrendered to U.S. Capitol Police on January 27, 2025, while carrying a folding knife and two improvised incendiary devices.

Federal authorities said English had traveled to Washington contemplating attacks against several prominent Trump administration and Republican figures before abandoning the plan and voluntarily surrendering.
