LAS VEGAS, NV — (September 10, 2026) — 20th Century Studios has unleashed the official trailer for Whalefall, an intense survival thriller starring Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin and Elisabeth Shue — and its central nightmare leaves one man with approximately an hour to escape from inside a massive sperm whale.




Directed by Brian Duffield, Whalefall follows Jay Gardiner (Abrams), who ventures into the waters off California’s Central Coast following the death of his father, played by Brolin.

Jay dives in search of his father’s remains, only for the mission to take a horrifying turn when he’s swallowed by a sperm whale.

Austin Abrams Fights for Survival in Whalefall

Trapped inside the animal with only about one hour of oxygen remaining, Jay faces a seemingly impossible fight to stay alive.

But as his oxygen disappears, lessons imparted by his father begin taking on new significance — and could ultimately provide the key to finding a way out.

The premise combines large-scale survival spectacle with a father-son story at the center of Jay’s increasingly desperate battle.

Whalefall is based on the novel by Daniel Kraus, with Duffield and Kraus writing the screenplay.
