LAS VEGAS, NV – (August 20, 2026) – CBS has finally unleashed the NCIS: New York official trailer, giving fans their first action-packed look at LL COOL J returning as legendary NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna alongside franchise newcomer Scott Caan.

And CBS isn’t being subtle about the pedigree behind its newest crime drama.

The trailer prominently announces “From the Creator of The Pitt” before introducing viewers to a dramatically different chapter of the NCIS universe — one that brings Hanna home to New York City and places him alongside an entirely new team.

Joining LL COOL J and Caan are Jennifer Beals, Jacqueline Byers, Shane Harper and Devin Druid, rounding out the principal cast of what is shaping up to be one of CBS’ biggest new series launches of the fall television season.

LL COOL J Returns as Sam Hanna in NCIS: New York

For longtime NCIS fans, the biggest headline is unmistakable: Sam Hanna is back.

LL COOL J reprises the character he made famous during his long-running tenure on NCIS: Los Angeles, but NCIS: New York isn’t simply attempting to recreate what viewers have already seen.

This time, Hanna returns to his hometown of New York City, where he joins the NCIS New York field office and helps lead a new team charged with handling high-stakes investigations and threats surrounding one of the world’s most strategically important cities and ports.

The location immediately gives the series a different identity.

New York’s enormous international footprint, sprawling transportation infrastructure and vital port system provide the new NCIS team with no shortage of potential cases involving national security, military personnel and major criminal investigations.

And Hanna won’t be handling them alone.

Scott Caan Enters the NCIS Franchise

Scott Caan joins the NCIS universe as Special Agent Nick Schaeffer, a roguish agent who finds himself partnered with Hanna.

Based on the first official trailer, the contrasting personalities of Hanna and Schaeffer appear destined to become a major part of the show’s chemistry.

Caan already knows his way around a CBS action procedural.

The actor spent a decade portraying Detective Sergeant Danny “Danno” Williams opposite Alex O’Loughlin on Hawaii Five-0. Pairing him with LL COOL J gives NCIS: New York two television veterans with extensive experience anchoring ensemble action dramas.

The trailer wastes little time putting that pairing to work.

Fast-moving investigations, armed confrontations, New York locations and flashes of humor establish a familiar NCIS rhythm while suggesting Hanna and Schaeffer won’t always see eye-to-eye on how the job should be done.

That may be exactly what makes the partnership work.

Jennifer Beals Helps Lead the NCIS: New York Cast

CBS has surrounded its two leads with an impressive supporting cast.

Jennifer Beals stars as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells, who oversees the NCIS New York field office.

Jacqueline Byers joins the team as Special Agent Addison “Addy” Ross, while Shane Harper portrays Special Agent Wyatt Hill.

Rounding out the core group is Devin Druid as NCIS Tech Specialist Sean Sullivan.

Rather than simply transplanting an existing NCIS team into another city, the new series gives Hanna an entirely different group of personalities to navigate as he assumes a leadership role within the New York operation.

That combination of an established franchise favorite and a fresh ensemble could give CBS the best of both worlds: familiarity for longtime viewers and enough new characters and relationships to allow the series to develop its own identity.

“From the Creator of The Pitt”

CBS is also making another connection impossible to miss.

The NCIS: New York official trailer prominently promotes the series with the title card “From the Creator of The Pitt.”

That creator is R. Scott Gemmill, whose television résumé also carries extensive history within the NCIS universe.

Gemmill is among the executive producers behind NCIS: New York, alongside Byron Balasco, Adam Davidson, Kyle Harimoto, Joe Wilson, LL COOL J and Jason Barrett.

Balasco serves as showrunner.

The Pitt connection gives CBS another powerful promotional hook as it introduces viewers to the newest NCIS entry, particularly among audiences familiar with the acclaimed medical drama.

But for NCIS loyalists, Gemmill’s connection to the franchise may be equally important as the series attempts to take Sam Hanna into a new era.

NCIS: New York Gives Sam Hanna a New Mission

Bringing Hanna back rather than launching the series exclusively around new characters provides NCIS: New York with something most first-season dramas don’t have: years of existing character history.

Audiences already know Hanna as an experienced operative capable of handling dangerous assignments, international threats and complicated investigations.

What they don’t know is how that veteran agent will adapt to New York.

The new setting gives writers an opportunity to evolve Hanna without abandoning the history that made him a fan favorite.

It also opens the door for a new generation of NCIS characters to develop around him.

The first trailer makes clear that CBS intends to maintain the franchise’s signature mixture of investigations, action, danger, humor and team dynamics while allowing New York City to become a character in its own right.

When Does NCIS: New York Premiere on CBS?

The wait won’t last much longer.

NCIS: New York premieres Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.

The new series will also be available through Paramount+, giving viewers another way to follow Sam Hanna’s return and the newest NCIS team.

With LL COOL J back in one of his signature television roles, Scott Caan returning to CBS procedural territory and Jennifer Beals helping anchor a strong ensemble cast, NCIS: New York already has plenty of recognizable star power.

Add the creative pedigree highlighted by CBS with its “From the Creator of The Pitt” campaign, and the network is clearly positioning its newest NCIS chapter as more than another routine franchise expansion.

New city. New partner. New team.

But one very familiar agent is back on the case.
