SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — (August 17, 2026) — Rookie boy group WAYF BOYS are wasting no time establishing their identity. Anderson, Andrew, Ryan, Junmyeong and Samuel officially arrived August 7 with debut single “WAYF BOYS DO,” pairing hip-hop-driven attitude with a freewheeling music video that pushes against the polished conventions typically associated with K-pop debuts.
The five-member group operates under independent South Korean label WAYF, founded by producer Czaer (Son Sung-ho). The name carries the meanings “Where Art Yields Freedom” and “We Are Your Friend,” reflecting an artist-first philosophy centered on creative freedom and individuality. WAYF has positioned the group at the forefront of what it calls “Nu-Kpop” — a creator-driven movement combining music, fashion, lifestyle and digital culture.

WAYF BOYS Trade K-Pop Precision for a Crew Mentality
That philosophy is immediately visible in the “WAYF BOYS DO” official music video.
Rather than building the production around rigid synchronization and immaculate idol imagery, WAYF BOYS embrace something intentionally rougher and more spontaneous. The members race through urban spaces, take over courtyards and playgrounds, dance with an almost improvised crew mentality and lean heavily into hip-hop and street-fashion aesthetics.
The visual approach matches the group’s unusual creative structure. WAYF BOYS have been presented as a “crew-style group,” with the members participating directly in music, performance, styling and content creation rather than functioning solely as performers.
That freedom also gives the video some of its most talked-about moments. Humor, irreverence and deliberately unfiltered imagery are woven throughout the production, reinforcing the idea that WAYF BOYS aren’t particularly interested in behaving like a conventional rookie idol group.
From Waterbomb Seoul to Worldwide Debut
WAYF BOYS began building serious attention before releasing their first official single.
The group made its first official full-member stage appearance at Waterbomb Seoul 2026 on July 26, where they previewed “WAYF BOYS DO” along with unreleased material before the song’s worldwide August 7 release. Their decision to perform at a major festival before following the traditional K-pop showcase route immediately separated the group from the standard rookie playbook.
They also brought fans unusually close to the experience by using Meta smart glasses to capture preparations and performance footage from the members’ own first-person perspectives.
The strategy followed substantial pre-debut momentum. WAYF BOYS reportedly surpassed one million Instagram followers before their official debut, while an a cappella cover of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” exceeded 10 million TikTok views.
Now “WAYF BOYS DO” gives that online attention an official soundtrack.
Between its hip-hop and rap influences, street-level visual language, unconventional performance style and emphasis on member-driven creativity, WAYF BOYS are making their intentions clear: Nu-Kpop isn’t supposed to look exactly like the K-pop that came before it.
