LAS VEGAS, NV — (September 4, 2026) — South Korean-American R&B/pop soloist kyu is keeping love painfully close — but seemingly never close enough — in the striking new music video for “arm’s reach.”

The former I-LAND finalist, born Dong-kyu Kim, returns to the visual side of his BIAS era with a dark and intimate treatment for one of the project’s standout love songs.

Released through NAISU Agency, “arm’s reach” appears as the second track on BIAS, kyu’s 10-track 2026 project released August 28. The record continues the genre-blurring direction that has increasingly separated the soloist from his K-pop trainee beginnings, moving him into an individualized space incorporating R&B, pop, hip-hop and electronic influences.

‘arm’s reach’ Turns Love Into a Cinematic Experience

Where kyu’s music has increasingly established his sonic identity, the “arm’s reach” music video turns inward.

Director seong surrounds the singer with darkness, stark white light and deliberately sparse spaces. kyu appears isolated through much of the visual, while scenes involving his female co-star introduce the human connection at the center of the love-song imagery.

But the video’s most arresting motif comes from kyu himself.

In several sequences, he appears shirtless with what resemble damaged or torn wings emerging from his back, transforming the otherwise restrained visual into something considerably more surreal.

Rather than overwhelming the song with spectacle, the imagery reinforces a feeling of vulnerability — someone wounded by a connection that still feels tantalizingly close.

It’s an effective visual language for a song called “arm’s reach.”

BIAS Continues kyu’s Independent Evolution

“arm’s reach” also arrives at an important point in kyu’s transition from survival-show contestant to solo recording artist.

Long before BIAS, audiences first encountered him as Daniel Kim on Mnet’s I-LAND. He subsequently resurfaced as kyu under NAISU Agency, making his official solo debut with “tempo” in March 2025. Contemporary coverage described the debut as an effort to establish greater creative independence while positioning kyu toward the Western music market.

That strategy has become increasingly visible through BIAS.

The 2026 project contains 10 tracks, including “arm’s reach,” “this feels like,” “tempo,” “unknown,” “focus on me,” “beretta,” “tell me,” “dream” and “play my cards.” Several tracks arrived ahead of the complete project, turning the album campaign into an extended sequence of musical and visual introductions rather than a single release-day event.

“arm’s reach” now pushes that campaign forward with one of its most visually distinctive chapters.

A Visual Team Built Around the BIAS Era

The new music video was directed and edited by seong, with production by ROUGH.LAB and Hwanpil Park serving as director of photography.

Siyun Kwoun handled creative direction, with styling by Eric Kwak, hair by soosookim and makeup by Ryuna.

The production also credits Myeongjae Song and eehosoo for VFX/AI, while Seungwoo Lee handled color.

Chase Park serves as executive producer, continuing NAISU Agency’s carefully coordinated visual and creative rollout surrounding kyu.

The result feels less like an isolated promotional video and more like another piece of the larger visual identity being constructed around BIAS.

kyu Is Building His Own Lane

That’s ultimately what makes “arm’s reach” particularly interesting.

kyu’s story began within the machinery of the K-pop trainee system, but his current material isn’t attempting to recreate that formula under a different name.

Instead, BIAS is increasingly positioning him somewhere between alternative R&B, contemporary pop and the visual precision associated with his Korean entertainment background.

“arm’s reach” brings those worlds together particularly well.

The song supplies the intimacy. The video supplies the wounds, shadows and longing.

And kyu continues putting distance between the artist he was expected to become and the one he’s now choosing to build.
