BUFFALO, NY – (October 21, 2026) – A major investment in LGBTQ community infrastructure is taking shape in downtown Buffalo as GLYS Western New York (GLYS WNY) moves forward with plans to purchase the former Oxford Pennant headquarters, creating a permanent home for two prominent LGBTQ nonprofit organizations.

The acquisition, involving a property at 810 Main Street in Buffalo’s historic Allentown district, will bring GLYS WNY and the Pride Center of Western New York together under one roof.

The organizations are pursuing a combined property acquisition and renovation project expected to exceed $3 million, representing a significant long-term investment in LGBTQ youth services, community programming, and nonprofit real estate.

GLYS WNY Moves From Leasing to Property Ownership

The nonprofit is under contract to acquire the former Oxford Pennant property from Legacy Development for approximately $1.45 million.

The proposed purchase includes 8,000 square feet of office space in the Main Street building and an additional 5,000-square-foot former manufacturing facility behind the property.

More than 25 dedicated parking spaces at nearby 8 St. Louis Place are also included.

The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks, while the organizations plan a phased renovation and relocation.

For GLYS WNY, the acquisition represents a transition from leased offices to a permanent property capable of accommodating expanded services and future organizational growth.

A New Headquarters for Two LGBTQ Organizations

Founded in 1983, GLYS WNY supports LGBTQ youth and young adults through educational resources, advocacy, counseling referrals, and community programs.

The organization serves more than 1,700 young people and families annually across eight Western New York counties.

The Pride Center of Western New York, established in 1998, serves more than 3,500 individuals each year through health and wellness resources, support groups, community outreach, HIV testing, and educational services.

GLYS assumed oversight of the Pride Center from Evergreen Health in May 2025, although both organizations continue to maintain separate identities.

Currently operating from different leased locations, the two nonprofits intend to consolidate their administrative and community operations at the new property.

The arrangement could improve coordination while providing additional space for programming and community partnerships.

Former Oxford Pennant Facility to Become Community Gathering Space

One of the project’s most significant features is the planned transformation of the property’s former manufacturing facility into a flexible community venue.

Rather than dividing the entire space into offices, GLYS leadership intends to preserve an open layout suitable for meetings, performances, rehearsals, exhibitions, and other activities.

Several local organizations have already expressed interest in using the proposed facility, including the Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus, Nickel City Treble Makers, Upstate Black Latino Pride, and the Buffalo-Niagara LGBTQ History Project.

The project could establish a shared community resource for organizations that might otherwise face challenges securing suitable meeting and event space.

$3 Million Investment Highlights LGBTQ Nonprofit Growth

The acquisition also represents an important development in nonprofit financial planning.

GLYS WNY is combining commercial mortgage financing with fundraising to support the purchase and renovations.

A 25-member fundraising committee, chaired by GLYS board member James Zawodzinski Jr., is helping coordinate financial support for the project.

The renovation plans are being developed with Syracuse-based architectural firm inArchitects.

Legacy Development is expected to retain its third-floor offices temporarily during the transition, allowing the nonprofit to gradually expand into the property.

The project illustrates how property ownership can become part of a nonprofit organization’s long-term operating strategy, although the financial benefits will depend on mortgage obligations, renovation costs, fundraising success, and ongoing maintenance expenses.

Buffalo’s LGBTQ Community Looks Toward 2028

GLYS leadership hopes to complete renovations and relocate operations by summer 2028.

The former Oxford Pennant property became available after the Buffalo-based manufacturer moved to larger facilities at 775 Seneca Street in the city’s Larkinville district.

For GLYS WNY and the Pride Center, the acquisition offers an opportunity to establish a more permanent institutional presence while accommodating increasing demand for LGBTQ community services.

Beyond its immediate impact on Buffalo, the development provides an example of how established LGBTQ nonprofits are approaching infrastructure investment, shared facilities, and organizational sustainability.
