ABOVE THE BELOW Sends Three Astronauts Into an Ocean Nightmare

After surviving a catastrophic descent through Earth’s atmosphere, three astronauts discover that their nightmare is only beginning when their damaged spacecraft plunges into the crushing depths of the ocean.

Trapped beneath the surface with their oxygen supply rapidly disappearing, the crew must confront an impossible decision: risk everything attempting to escape or remain inside a spacecraft that could become their underwater tomb.

Elba portrays Jackson, alongside Caitlin FitzGerald as Brookes and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Rhodes, three characters whose survival depends on courage, sacrifice and split-second decisions.

Idris Elba Brings Practical Filmmaking to a Claustrophobic Thriller

Beyond his starring role, Elba shares directing duties with Martin Owen, bringing an ambitious physical dimension to the production.

The filmmakers constructed a spacecraft and submerged it in water, incorporating extensive practical underwater filming to heighten the movie’s sense of realism and confinement.

With a tightly paced 85-minute runtime, ABOVE THE BELOW combines the isolation of space exploration with the unforgiving dangers of the deep ocean, creating a survival thriller where every remaining breath matters.

Distributed by Lionsgate, the film is produced by Gina Carter and Matt Williams through Future Artists Entertainment.
