Both defendants appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on October 15, 2026, following the August 14 burglary of the retailer’s Long Row location.

Ann Summers Burglary: £12,059 in Sex Toys and Lingerie Stolen

According to Nottinghamshire Police, the suspects wore high-visibility clothing and smashed a window to enter the Ann Summers store during the early morning hours of August 14.

Officers received a report of a burglary in progress at approximately 4:32 a.m.

Police arrived within three minutes, prompting both men to flee before officers detained and arrested them nearby.

A subsequent search of Hillsley’s vehicle uncovered a substantial quantity of stolen Ann Summers merchandise in the boot.

Investigators valued the recovered products, including lingerie and adult novelty items, at £12,059.

CCTV Evidence and the Lookout’s Explanation

Security footage played a central role in the investigation.

Police reported that Kamal initially denied entering the Ann Summers premises despite CCTV footage showing his face inside the store.

Hillsley acknowledged acting as a lookout and assisting during the burglary but told investigators that he had been pressured into participating.

According to police, Hillsley claimed he had been promised a substantial payment and a change in his social standing.

The evidence ultimately contributed to guilty pleas and the October sentencing proceedings.

DNA on Abandoned Vape Links Kamal to Second Burglary

Investigators also connected Kamal to a separate commercial burglary at Professional Mobile, a mobile phone business on Front Street in Arnold, Nottinghamshire.

That July 28 incident involved approximately £13,000 worth of stolen electronic devices.

Police said Kamal left a vape at the mobile phone shop containing DNA evidence that linked him to the break-in.

Investigators also discovered that a phone Kamal was using had been stolen from the business.

The additional evidence helped establish his involvement in the second burglary, which was included in his three-year prison sentence.

Nottingham Crown Court Sentences Both Defendants

At Nottingham Crown Court on October 15, Kamal was sentenced to three years in prison for the Ann Summers and Professional Mobile burglaries.

Hillsley received a community order for the Ann Summers offense.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies of Nottinghamshire Police praised the responding officers for rapidly detaining the suspects and recovering the stolen products.

The police official emphasized that commercial burglary causes real harm to businesses and their employees.

Operation Reclaim Targets Commercial Retail Crime

The Ann Summers investigation formed part of Operation Reclaim, Nottinghamshire Police’s ongoing initiative addressing crime in Nottingham city centre.

Launched in May 2026, the operation brings together police and local partners to target offenders and strengthen public safety in commercial areas.

The initiative incorporates a policing strategy known as Clear, Hold, Build, intended to disrupt criminal activity and prevent it from returning.

For adult specialty retailers, the Ann Summers case illustrates how surveillance footage, rapid police response, forensic evidence, and inventory recovery can contribute to successful criminal investigations.

The case also highlights the financial exposure facing retail businesses when substantial quantities of merchandise are targeted in overnight burglaries.
