CONCORD, NH — (08-28-24) — Drag performers Robert Champion and Michael McMahon have won a $200K judgement against New Hampshire Republican David Love, for calling them pedophiles two years ago. In the landmark decision handed down last week, the court not only ordered State Representative David Love to pay each performer $100K in damages, but he must also publicly apologize to the two performers for falsely accusing them of being pedophiles two years ago.
Love made the slanderous statements while introducing a bill requiring criminal background checks for library employees and volunteers. Love is no stranger to being an anti-LGBTQ crusader, as he opposed what is known as ‘drag queen story hours’ in the state back in 2022.
In February 2022, Love, who had previously opposed drag queen story hours at local libraries claimed Champion—performing as Monique Toosoon—and McMahon—known as Clara Divine—had inappropriate interactions with children.
Champion, who participated in a Nashua event back in 2019, was accused of being a “convicted sex offender,” while McMahon was alleged to have acted inappropriately at a 2021 event in Derry with a minor. Despite objections from the Champion and McMahon plus local officials and community leaders, the anti-LGBTQ crusader persisted with his unfounded and outrageous claims.
The plaintiffs have now received justice for his actions as Love has paid both Champion and McMahon $100K each and released the following public apology via his Facebook Page. Although he made the following statement below on his official Facebook page, reviewing the page prior to publishing this article, the apology has vanished from his feed.
Review the apology that he has now taken down in less than 24 hours of making it on on Facebook.
“After being provided with inaccurate information, information that I failed to verify, I publicly accused Robert Champion aka Monique Toosoon of being a registered sex offender and Michael McMahon aka Clara Divine of ‘rubbing butts’ with children. I have since learned that those assertions were completely false. “I wish to publicly retract those statements and apologize to Robert and Michael,” he concluded. “I have agreed to monetary judgment against me for $100,000 for Robert and Michael each.” said Love.
