River Turns a Family Reunion Into a Deadly Nightmare
The story follows three estranged siblings, played by Levy, Rothe and Mattern, who return to their rural hometown following their father’s death.
Hoping to honor his memory, they venture onto a remote river to scatter his ashes at a favorite family location.
But their journey takes a horrifying turn when their boat breaks down, leaving them stranded without cell service or a clear route to safety.
As darkness approaches, a mysterious masked stranger emerges along the riverbank. Played by Dane DiLiegro, the relentless figure turns their peaceful memorial into a deadly game of survival.
Blumhouse Atomic Monster Brings River to Theaters
Following its screening in the Midnight Madness program at the Toronto International Film Festival, River was acquired by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
The film is produced by Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures alongside Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund of Eat The Cat.
Jason Blum is among the executive producers, with Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Independent Film Company presenting the Shudder Original production in association with Upgrade.
With its isolated setting, relentless masked antagonist and established horror cast, River is positioning itself as an early-2027 theatrical attraction for slasher fans.
