LAS VEGAS — (March 19, 2026) — A video circulating online is drawing widespread attention after a former official in the administration of Donald Trump openly declared that Christians should impose their religious values on American society through government and legislation.

The remarks were made by William Wolfe, who previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and as Director of Legislative Affairs at the U.S. State Department during the Trump administration. Wolfe now leads the Center for Baptist Leadership, an organization that promotes conservative Christian political engagement.

Wolfe delivered the comments during a speech at Bethel Church in Petersburg, West Virginia, where he urged Christians to embrace a more assertive role in shaping public policy and governance.

“This is how we should order our lives together,” Wolfe said during the speech. “And frankly, yes, we are going to impose it upon you. If you don’t like it, I’m sorry, but this is good and right and just if it lines up with God’s standards, and I am going to enforce my morality on you in as much as our morality is God’s morality.”

He continued by encouraging believers to evaluate their political positions through a biblical lens.

“You should always check yourselves,” Wolfe said. “Do I believe what God believes? Am I defending what God says is good?”

“And if it is, then you should have the courage to say, ‘This is how we’re going to run our town, this is how we’re going to run our county, this is how we’re going to run our state, and this is how we should run the United States of America by legislating the morality that we can find in the Bible.’”

Video Highlighted by Right Wing Watch

The speech gained traction after being highlighted by Right Wing Watch, a nonprofit watchdog project that monitors statements and activities by far-right political and religious figures in the United States.

Right Wing Watch published video excerpts of Wolfe’s remarks, which quickly spread across social media and political discussion forums as critics and supporters debated the implications of his comments.

Growing Debate Around Christian Nationalism

Wolfe’s remarks come amid a broader national debate about the influence of Christian nationalism, a political ideology that argues the United States should be governed according to Christian religious principles.

Scholars and civil rights advocates have increasingly warned about the growing role of Christian nationalist rhetoric in American politics, particularly in policy debates involving LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and church-state separation.

Critics argue that such views conflict with the constitutional principle of religious freedom, which protects Americans from government establishment of religion.

Supporters of Wolfe’s perspective, however, often frame their argument as a defense of traditional values and religious freedom, asserting that Christian beliefs should continue to play a prominent role in shaping public life.

Political and Civil Rights Implications

Advocates for LGBTQ rights and civil liberties say rhetoric calling for the enforcement of biblical morality through legislation raises concerns about potential impacts on minority communities.

Civil rights organizations frequently point to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, which prohibits the federal government from establishing an official religion or privileging one faith over others.

As the 2026 election cycle approaches, analysts say debates surrounding religious influence in politics, LGBTQ rights, and the separation of church and state are likely to remain major flashpoints in American political discourse.

For now, Wolfe’s remarks continue to circulate online as activists, religious leaders, and political commentators weigh in on the implications of a political movement that openly advocates governing the United States according to biblical moral codes.
