According to the U.S. State Department, the emergency military package includes 12,000 BLU-110A/B 1,000-pound bombs in a deal valued at approximately $151.8 million.
Officials said the urgency of the request allowed the administration to bypass the standard congressional review process under provisions of the Arms Export Control Act, a rarely used mechanism reserved for situations deemed critical to U.S. national security interests.
The approval comes as the ongoing conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran continues to escalate with daily airstrikes and growing regional tensions.
In a statement announcing the sale, the State Department said the transfer would help strengthen the security capabilities of one of Washington’s key strategic allies in the Middle East.
“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic regional partner.”
