According to reporting first published by the Daily Mail, multiple U.S. intelligence agencies had prepared a joint advisory intended to alert law enforcement nationwide to elevated domestic security risks linked to the escalating U.S.–Iran war.
The report, described as a five-page briefing titled “A Public Safety Awareness Report: Elevated Threat in the United States During U.S.–Iran Conflict,” allegedly outlined several potential targets and threat scenarios.
Officials familiar with the document told the publication the warning identified increased risks toward:
-
U.S. military and government personnel
-
Jewish and Israeli institutions
-
Iranian dissidents living in the United States
-
Individuals or organizations viewed by Tehran as supporting Israel or anti-regime activism
According to the report, the advisory was being prepared jointly by the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Counterterrorism Center before it was scheduled for distribution to state and local authorities.
However, the bulletin was reportedly paused after the Department of Homeland Security notified the White House ahead of its planned release.
Sources cited in the report claim senior officials within the Trump administration ordered the nationwide security alert placed on hold for further review. The White House did not directly deny the report when asked about the decision.
In a statement responding to the allegations, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said the administration is ensuring that intelligence information distributed to the public and local authorities is properly vetted.
“The White House is coordinating closely with all government agencies to ensure information being disseminated is accurate, up to date, and has been properly vetted,” Jackson said. “That process sometimes requires additional time to review complex intelligence assessments.”
Security analysts warn that the growing military confrontation between Washington and Tehran could increase the risk of retaliatory activity by Iranian-aligned groups or lone actors.
Jeffrey Halstead, a former Homeland Security commander for Phoenix law enforcement, told Fox News Digital that escalating geopolitical tensions may embolden extremist actors targeting U.S. interests domestically.
“Any time conflict intensifies with a nation like Iran, the possibility increases that individuals sympathetic to that regime could attempt retaliatory attacks against American targets,” Halstead said.
Officials have not confirmed whether the intelligence bulletin will ultimately be released publicly or distributed privately to law enforcement agencies.
As tensions between the United States and Iran continue to rise, national security experts say federal agencies remain on heightened alert for potential threats linked to the conflict.
