WASHINGTON, D.C. — (August 10, 2025) — In a blunt message likely to shake diplomatic corridors across Europe, US Vice President JD Vance declared on Fox News that America is “done” funding Ukraine’s war effort — leaving the burden squarely on Europe’s shoulders.

“If they want to keep buying weapons for Kiev, they can buy them from American producers,” Vance said. “But we’re not going to fund it ourselves anymore.”
The remarks followed Vance’s London meetings with European and Ukrainian officials, including UK Foreign Minister David Lammy, ahead of a historic Alaska summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin set for Friday. Resolving the Ukraine–Russia conflict is expected to dominate the talks.
Vance’s message was unequivocal:
“Americans are sick of sending their tax dollars to this conflict. If the Europeans care so much, it’s time they step up.”
Media reports suggest Trump and Putin could explore territorial swap proposals “to the betterment of both sides,” a concept Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has rejected outright. “The Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupiers,” Zelensky said.
Moscow’s chief negotiator Kirill Dmitriev warned that certain countries may attempt to sabotage the Alaska meeting in a bid to prolong the war.
