LEXINGTON, KY – (09-24-18) — Suspect accused by police of attempted robbery, vandalism and attempted arson, has been arrested. Police say that a male suspect entered the adult video store with intentions of robbing the establishment.
Authorities allege that the 25-year-old William Ray Spears entered Video Max located at 950 Winchester Road, just before 1 a.m. Police further say that William Ray Spears told the adult video store employees he had a gun and demanded cash from the register.
However the Video Max employees told local affiliate LEX 18 TV News, that they didn’t believe Spears had a gun and told the suspect to leave. Instead, employees claim, Spears began toppling glass display cases and even set on fire to a T-shirt before fleeing the scene.
One of the Video Max employee’s followed Spears out and tackled him on the sidewalk. Spears was restrained until police arrived and took him into custody. Spears has been charged with robbery, arson, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
According to the employees of Video Max, Spears caused thousands of dollars in damage to the interior of the store.
