LOUISVILLE, KY — A Kentucky judge who declared that his moral religious beliefs in objecting to handling same-sex adoption cases has been blocked from changing how he reviews adoption cases.

Judge W. Mitchell Nance submitted his proposal rule to the state’s chief justice, John D. Minton Jr. Administrative Office of the Courts spokeswoman Leigh Anne Hiatt said Friday that Minton had denied the request on procedural and substantive grounds which of course Judge Mitchell was shocked at. Nance declined to release a statement on the ruling.

Kentucky state law allows gay couples to adopt period! Nance’s proposal was aimed at allowing him to identify same-sex adoption cases and pre-emptively recuse himself from those cases. Civil rights groups were outraged and had demanded that Judge Nance be removed from the bench.
