LAS VEGAS — (May 19, 2026) — HBO Max has released a new teaser for Lanterns, the upcoming DC Studios series that brings Green Lantern mythology back to television with a darker, detective-driven edge.
The new footage arrives ahead of the series’ August 16 debut on HBO and HBO Max, giving fans a sharper look at Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. Unlike the earlier teaser, which drew criticism from some viewers over its muted visual tone and lack of comic-book energy, the latest preview leans harder into the glowing power of the rings, the tension between its two leads, and the earthbound mystery driving the season.

Lanterns follows new recruit John Stewart and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan as they investigate a murder in the American heartland, a case that appears to connect cosmic danger with a grounded crime-thriller framework. HBO’s official materials describe the series as a DC Studios project starring Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre and Kelly Macdonald.
The series is also drawing attention for its cast expansion, with Entertainment Weekly reporting that the new trailer reveals Laura Linney’s involvement and Nathan Fillion’s return as Guy Gardner. The show also features Kelly Macdonald, Ulrich Thomsen, Garret Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan.

Rather than presenting Green Lantern as a traditional space-faring spectacle, Lanterns appears to be building its identity around a gritty “buddy cop” mystery format. That shift could help the series stand apart inside the growing DC Universe while still giving comic book fans the ring-powered action they expect from one of DC’s most recognizable franchises.
The latest teaser suggests DC Studios heard the early fan reaction loud and clear. With brighter Green Lantern visuals, heavier action beats and a clearer story hook, Lanterns now looks positioned as one of HBO Max’s biggest superhero streaming plays of 2026.
