LAS VEGAS — (March 4, 2026) — The highly anticipated official trailer for HBO’s upcoming DC Universe series “Lanterns” has finally arrived, offering fans their first look at the gritty new interpretation of the legendary Green Lantern mythology. The trailer debuted just hours ago and is already generating buzz across the streaming and comic book communities as HBO prepares to expand the new DC Universe under the leadership of DC Studios.
Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, Lanterns centers on iconic Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart, portrayed by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre. Unlike traditional superhero storytelling, the series takes a darker investigative approach, following the two intergalactic lawmen as they investigate a mysterious murder on Earth that could have far-reaching implications for the DC Universe.

According to early previews, the tone of the series draws inspiration from prestige dramas such as True Detective and the espionage thriller Slow Horses. The creative team aims to blend high-concept superhero storytelling with grounded detective drama, positioning Lanterns as one of the most ambitious projects in the new DCU lineup.
The cast features an impressive ensemble, including Kelly Macdonald and Nathan Fillion, alongside Chandler and Pierre. The series is produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, with Chris Mundy serving as showrunner.
Development for a live-action Green Lantern television series has been ongoing for several years. Producer Greg Berlanti originally began exploring the concept in 2019. After James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022, the project was reimagined as part of the studio’s new unified DC Universe storytelling strategy.
