A Deadly Escort Mission Gone Wrong
The series centers on Amber Todd (Izuka Hoyle), a principled prison transport officer assigned to escort notorious contract killer Tibor Stone (Tahar Rahim) to court. Tibor is preparing to testify against his former employers, an elite and dangerous crime syndicate.
What should be a tightly controlled transfer spirals into chaos when their convoy is violently ambushed. As the sole survivors, Amber and Tibor find themselves handcuffed together and hunted by powerful criminal forces.
With nowhere to turn, Amber must decide whether she can trust the very man she was tasked with delivering to justice—blurring the line between duty and survival.
A Powerhouse Cast and Creative Team
Leading the cast are Tahar Rahim (The Serpent, Napoleon) and Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, Big Boys), delivering a tense two-hander performance that anchors the series.
Supporting them is an impressive ensemble featuring Eddie Marsan, Catherine McCormack, Finn Bennett, and Leonie Benesch.
The series is created and written by Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies), with directing duties handled by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders), ensuring a polished, cinematic production style.
Filmed in Wales with Cinematic Scope
Production for Prisoner took place extensively in Cardiff and surrounding areas in Wales throughout mid-2025. Large-scale filming operations, including simulated SWAT activity and major road closures, drew significant public attention during production.
Backed by Creative Wales and the Welsh Government, the series benefits from expansive locations that enhance its gritty, large-scale aesthetic.
A Gritty, High-Stakes Survival Thriller
The newly released trailer highlights a tense “shackled survival” dynamic between Amber and Tibor, emphasizing psychological warfare as much as physical danger.
Otto Bathurst’s signature visual style delivers a dark, cinematic tone, while the narrative pushes the familiar prisoner-escort trope into fresh territory—where trust becomes a dangerous liability.
With its frantic pacing, moral dilemmas, and relentless pursuit storyline, Prisoner is shaping up to be a standout entry in Sky’s 2026 lineup.
The series will premiere on Sky and stream on NOW in 2026.
