The former Game of Thrones co-stars play lovers in Lionsgate’s upcoming gothic horror film The Dreadful, which has just released its first official trailer.

Set in medieval England, The Dreadful follows Anne, a woman struggling to survive on the fringes of society alongside her domineering mother-in-law, Morwen. When a man from Anne’s past returns from war, a sinister curse begins to unfold — manifesting through a mysterious knight and threatening to destroy everyone in its path.

The film also stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, adding dramatic weight to the film’s bleak atmosphere and psychological horror.

Speaking previously to E! News, Harington admitted the role reversal initially caught him off guard.

“She was one that sent that movie to me and somehow didn’t see what I saw in it,” Harington said. “I was like, ‘These guys, these are lovers, right?’ I felt very odd about that. But it was a good chance to be with her again and work together.”

The actor also joked about the on-set logistics, noting Turner’s height advantage.

“It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”

Despite the awkwardness, Harington said their longtime friendship made the experience meaningful.

“What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did.”

With its eerie medieval setting, gothic visuals, and an intentionally uncomfortable emotional dynamic, The Dreadful looks poised to stand out as one of 2026’s most talked-about horror releases.

The film is scheduled for release on February 20, 2026, with a limited theatrical rollout followed by availability across major streaming platforms, including Comcast and DISH, as well as video-on-demand (VOD) services. The multi-platform release strategy positions the gothic horror film for broad audience reach, combining theatrical exposure with nationwide streaming and digital access.
