ICE Agent Who Killed Queer Minneapolis Mother Identified as Trump Supporter as Disturbing Background Comes to Light

MINNEAPOLIS — (January 9, 2026) — A fatal shooting that left Renee Good, a 37-year-old queer mother of three, dead in her own neighborhood has ignited national outrage after new details emerged about the ICE officer who pulled the trigger — including his political extremism, military background, and public support for Donald Trump.

Federal officials confirmed this week that the officer involved was Jonathan Ross, a 43-year-old Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fugitive operations agent based in Minnesota. The Trump administration initially withheld his identity before it was revealed through court records and press reports.

The Department of Homeland Security has claimed that Ross was “dragged” by a vehicle during a prior immigration arrest, but witnesses and community members say the circumstances surrounding Good’s killing raise serious questions about use of force, federal accountability, and political radicalization inside ICE.

A Career Built on Enforcement and Surveillance

According to sworn testimony from a prior court case, Ross served in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 with the Indiana National Guard as a machine gunner before joining the U.S. Border Patrol in 2007 in El Paso, Texas.

He later transferred to ICE in 2015, becoming a deportation officer assigned to fugitive operations and serving as a team leader with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Ross described his role as targeting and tracking individuals for arrest:

“I develop the targets, create a target package, conduct surveillance, and develop a plan to execute the arrest warrant.”

He also told the court he was trained as a firearms instructor, active-shooter instructor, field intelligence officer, and SWAT team member — placing him among the most heavily armed and empowered federal agents.

Family Confirms MAGA Politics and Ideology

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Ross’s father openly confirmed his son’s political identity:

“He is a committed, conservative Christian… a tremendous father, a tremendous husband. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Neighbors near Ross’s suburban Minnesota home described a house that until recently displayed Trump-Vance campaign material and a “Don’t Tread on Me” (Gadsden) flag — a symbol commonly associated with far-right and militia movements.

One neighbor told reporters:

“He had Trump and Vance stickers up. The Gadsden flag was flying. You could tell where he stood politically.”

Extremist Ties Inside His Own Family

Ross’s political views also fractured his own family.

In now-deleted Facebook posts from 2020, Ross argued in favor of the Proud Boys, the far-right extremist group that has been linked to neo-Nazi networks and anti-LGBTQ violence.

His sister, Nicole, publicly condemned white supremacy in a post reading:

“I denounce and condemn white supremacy.”

Ross and his allies pushed back, claiming Trump had distanced himself from the group — a claim widely disputed after Trump told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” during a nationally televised debate.

Nicole eventually shut down the exchange:

“You are my brother and I love you, but we will not engage in a debate on Facebook.”

A Queer Family Mourns While Federal Officials Defend the Shooter

While Renee Good’s children and loved ones grieve, Vice President J.D. Vance and Trump administration officials have publicly defended Ross, claiming he “deserves a debt of gratitude” for his service.

LGBTQ advocates, civil-rights groups, and Minneapolis activists are demanding an independent federal investigation, calling the shooting another example of militarized immigration enforcement colliding with civilian life — and killing a queer woman in the process.

The tragedy has reignited urgent questions about ICE accountability, political radicalization inside federal law enforcement, and whether LGBTQ people are safe when armed immigration agents operate inside residential neighborhoods.
