Led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, the film chronicles a harrowing journey home following the Trojan War. Odysseus must endure mythical dangers, brutal trials, and the relentless pull of destiny as he struggles to reunite with his wife Penelope, portrayed by Anne Hathaway.
The ensemble cast reads like a cinematic powerhouse, featuring Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. Each appears briefly in the trailer, hinting at layered performances and mythological scale rarely seen on screen.
Nolan, producing alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner, began writing The Odyssey in early 2024 before securing the project with Universal Pictures. Principal photography spanned February through August 2025, with stunning real-world locations including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and Western Sahara.
With a reported $250 million budget, The Odyssey is the most expensive film of Nolan’s career and marks his first production shot entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras. Cinematography is handled by Hoyte van Hoytema, with music by Ludwig Göransson, further cementing the film’s prestige pedigree.
