A piercing look at queer survival, intimacy, and redemption, BABY follows Wellington (João Pedro Mariano) — an 18-year-old recently released from a juvenile detention center — as he struggles to rebuild his life on the unforgiving streets of São Paulo. Lost, isolated, and yearning for connection, Wellington crosses paths with Ronaldo (Ricardo Teodoro), a seasoned sex worker who offers him guidance, shelter, and eventually, love.

What begins as a mentorship born of necessity soon transforms into a turbulent, sensual, and deeply human bond — one that challenges Brazil’s taboos around class, sexuality, and masculinity.

A Queer Love Story of Survival and Desire

Director Marcelo Caetano co-wrote the screenplay with Gabriel Domingues, crafting an unflinching portrait of vulnerability, eroticism, and empathy in a society that rarely shows either to young queer men. The film also stars Ana Flavia Cavalcanti, Bruna Linzmeyer, and Luiz Bertazzo, with cinematography by Joana Luz and Pedro Sotero, whose lens captures the sensual grit of São Paulo nightlife.

The film is produced by Cup Filmes, Plateau Produções, Still Moving, Circe, Kaap Holland Film, and Desbun Filmes, and will be distributed by Peccadillo Pictures, Dark Star Pictures, and Uncork’d Entertainment.

Official Synopsis

After his release from a juvenile detention center, 18-year-old Wellington—nicknamed “Baby”—finds himself adrift, alone, and cut off from his family. When he meets Ronaldo, a middle-aged sex worker surviving on the margins, a connection begins to form between the two men—part mentorship, part romance, and part rebellion against the harsh world surrounding them.

Their passionate relationship becomes both a lifeline and a risk, exposing each man’s hopes and fragilities in a story that’s as heartbreaking as it is liberating.
