WASHINGTON, D.C. — (October 21, 2025) — Tech mogul Elon Musk launched a fiery tirade on X (formerly Twitter) against Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, accusing him of “trying to kill NASA” after Duffy announced plans to open future lunar contracts to competing firms.

The outburst comes amid rising tension between the billionaire founder of SpaceX and President Trump’s Department of Transportation, which now oversees the restructured Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Musk once led.
Earlier this year, Duffy told The New York Post that his disagreements with Musk stemmed from staffing concerns rather than policy conflicts.
“We are not going to fire air traffic controllers,” Duffy said in February. “We can do things more efficiently, but safety-critical positions are not going to be fired… The papers made it a bigger deal than it was.”
Duffy Says NASA “Won’t Wait for One Company”
Hostilities reignited Monday when Duffy, now Acting Administrator of NASA, told CNBC that SpaceX was falling behind the administration’s goal of returning Americans to the Moon by 2027 — and that other companies would now compete for the flagship lunar contract.
“We’re not going to wait for one company,” Duffy said. “We’re going to push this forward and win the second space race against China.”
He later amplified his remarks online:
We are in a race against China so we need the best companies to operate at a speed that gets us to the Moon FIRST.

Musk Fires Back With “Why Are You Gay?” GIF
Within hours, Musk fired back — posting a GIF from a viral Ugandan talk-show clip in which a host asks a guest, “Why are you gay?” The post was widely interpreted as mocking Duffy.

“Sean Dummy Is Trying to Kill NASA”
By Tuesday morning, the exchange had escalated further as Musk accused Duffy of sabotaging America’s space program — even assigning him a new nickname.

Neither Musk nor Duffy has commented further on the escalating feud to JRL CHARTS LGBT Politics. The spat underscores deep rifts between Silicon Valley’s billionaires and the Trump administration over federal contracts — and adds a bizarre cultural flashpoint to the conversation after Musk’s use of an anti-LGBTQ meme sparked backlash online.
