AMERICAN FORK, UT — (September 28, 2025) — The LGBTQ+ community in Utah County suffered a major blow this weekend as the Mosaics Bookstore and Resource Center officially closed its doors. The local hub for LGBTQ support and resources cites lost federal funding and a string of escalating threats, including bomb scares and harassment, as the final factors that forced the shutdown.

Founded as both a bookstore and safe gathering space, Mosaics quickly became a lifeline for LGBTQ youth, families, and allies in American Fork. Its closure marks the end of a physical space that provided crisis support, cultural programs, and community connection in a region often hostile toward LGBTQ residents.
“We have saved people’s lives, quite literally,” said Tara Lipsyncki, executive director of Mosaics. “It’s sad that we can’t continue that here.” Lipsyncki explained that while the building is shuttered, Mosaics plans to remain active by supporting LGBTQ events, attending Pride celebrations, and shifting to an online presence in the coming year.
Community advocates warn the loss underscores a growing trend across the U.S., where LGBTQ organizations are facing increased threats and dwindling funding support. For many in Utah County, Mosaics’ absence leaves a void at a time when visibility, safety, and resources are desperately needed.
Saturday marked the final day at their brick-and-mortar location, but leaders insist this isn’t the end of Mosaics’ mission. Instead, it’s a pivot toward digital outreach and statewide advocacy as they fight to continue serving Utah’s LGBTQ community.
