LAS VEGAS — (September 18, 2025) — Phoenix police arrested a 49-year-old man after he allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the popular LGBTQ+ bar Cruisin’ 7th, citing slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk as his “martyr,” according to newly released court documents.

Police identified the suspect as Treven Michael Gokey, who placed a 14-minute call to the Solari Crisis Line on Sept. 17, stating he was “triggered by political events.” During the call, he referenced access to firearms “because it is America” and threatened mass violence against the LGBTQ establishment located near 7th Street and Osborn Road in Midtown Phoenix.
Gokey allegedly told the crisis line that his inspiration was Charlie Kirk, the controversial founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot while delivering a speech in Utah on Sept. 10. When police arrived at Gokey’s apartment near 7th Avenue and Indian School Road, he refused to come outside, speaking only through a locked door and making references to school shootings in Minneapolis and Tennessee.
Court filings state Gokey declared that “radical left violence breeds a far right response” and went on to claim that “transgenderism should be eradicated from public society.”
Community Response
Phoenix Pride spokesperson Jeremy Helfgot vowed that the LGBTQ+ community would not be “intimidated, silenced, suppressed or subdued.” He confirmed that the city’s annual Pride Festival and Parade this October will move forward as planned, calling them “acts of power” in the face of hate.
Court Proceedings
At a Sept. 18 hearing, Commissioner Lindsay Hughes ruled there was probable cause for a felony count of making a terrorism threat. Gokey remains jailed on a $250,000 secured bond and, if released, will be placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring. He is prohibited from possessing weapons, alcohol, or non-prescription drugs. Future hearings are scheduled for Sept. 24 and Sept. 26 at South Court Tower in Phoenix.
Court records also note Gokey’s history of mental health issues, including a suicide attempt earlier this month and previous threats toward police.
