The Mi SELA center, a partnership between the Los Angeles LGBT Center and the Latino Equity Alliance, provides safe spaces for youth clubs, community workshops, and legal resources in Southeast Los Angeles. Staff say the vandalism has become an ongoing problem.

“There were over 10 bags. That was the second time we’ve had to do a full sweep of the awning … I just worry about what if it does escalate in the future?” said Sanva Lojero, Mi SELA’s programs manager told NBC News Los Angeles via Instagram.

While the perpetrators remain unknown, advocates believe the vandalism may be targeted, given the center’s focus on LGBTQ youth.

The Latino Equity Alliance condemned the attacks in a statement, calling them “abhorrent” and a stark reminder that targeted hate still thrives in 2025.

Local leaders have begun to respond. L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn pledged a $2,500 grant for new security cameras to help identify the vandals.

“The fact that this person is going out of their way to do this says everything about them and nothing about our LGBTQ community in Southeast L.A.,” Hahn said.

Despite the harassment, Mi SELA staff remain resolute:

“We’re not going anywhere, we’re going to still keep providing resources,” Lojero said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bell Police Department at (323) 585-1245.
