WASHINGTON, D.C. — (July 12, 2025) — A new national poll reveals that a majority of Americans support recent Supreme Court decisions on transgender healthcare bans, porn site age verification, and parental control over LGBT-related education in schools — signaling a dramatic shift in public opinion ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

Americans Back State Bans on Trans Youth Medical Care

The poll, conducted by YouGov in collaboration with researchers from the University of Texas, Harvard, and Stanford, surveyed 2,201 U.S. adults from April 10–16 — just weeks before the Supreme Court issued several landmark rulings.

According to the findings, 64% of Americans say states “should be able to ban” gender-affirming treatments for minors, such as hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and gender-related surgeries.

Support broke sharply along political lines:

  • 90% of Republicans

  • 63% of Independents

  • Just 38% of Democrats

The results mirrored the Supreme Court’s June 18 decision to uphold Tennessee’s law banning such procedures for minors — setting precedent for other states seeking to pass similar legislation.

Parental Rights Take Center Stage in LGBT Education Debate

On June 27, the high court ruled that public schools in Maryland must allow parents to withdraw their children from classroom discussions involving LGBT topics if those discussions conflict with their religious beliefs.

The poll showed broad public support for that ruling:

  • 77% of Americans say schools must honor parental opt-outs.

  • This includes 89% of Republicans, 72% of Independents, and even 69% of Democrats.

Critics warn that the ruling could embolden efforts to suppress LGBT-inclusive education across the country, while supporters argue it reinforces constitutionally protected religious freedoms.

Strong Majority Favors Age Verification for Porn Sites

The Supreme Court also upheld a Texas law requiring adult websites to verify that users are at least 18 years old, rejecting arguments that the law violates First Amendment protections.

That decision is also backed by the public:

  • 80% of respondents agree with requiring age checks for explicit websites.

  • Support spanned party lines, including:

    • 88% of Republicans

    • 75% of Democrats

    • 77% of Independents

Texas is one of 24 states with similar laws already on the books.

DOJ Targets Gender Clinics in Criminal Probe

In a development that sent shockwaves through the medical community, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on July 9 that it had issued over 20 subpoenas to clinics and doctors who provided transgender-related care to minors.

“Medical professionals and organizations that mutilated children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable by this Department of Justice,”
said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in a press release.

The Justice Department says it is investigating potential violations related to healthcare fraud, false statements, and criminal conduct in relation to youth gender-transition services.

Public Sentiment Could Shape the 2026 Election

With these decisions now on the books, and broad public support confirmed by polling data, LGBTQ+ advocacy groups warn that the legal tide is turning against hard-fought civil rights protections.

The 2026 election cycle may determine whether these rulings solidify into national precedent — or face pushback from a new generation of lawmakers and voters.
