WASHINGTON, D.C. — (June 23, 2025) — Iran has launched a direct military strike against American forces in the Middle East, firing 10 missiles at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and 1 at a US military installation in Iraq, according to initial intelligence sources cited by Iranian state media.

This terrifying escalation follows days of warnings from US officials and embassies across the Gulf region about the risk of Iranian retaliation for recent American strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Earlier today, the US Embassy in Qatar advised American citizens to shelter in place, citing “an abundance of caution” amid rising regional tensions. Hours later, the Qatari Foreign Ministry suspended all air traffic in its airspace, signaling an immediate threat to civilian and military aviation.

“The safety of citizens, residents, and visitors is our top priority,” said Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry.

Al Udeid Air Base, located near Doha, hosts over 8,000 US military personnel and serves as the forward headquarters of US Central Command. Satellite imagery from earlier this month revealed that dozens of aircraft had been quietly relocated from the base in anticipation of a strike.

In Iraq, US embassies and consulates began drawing down non-essential personnel over the weekend. The missile strike on the American base in Iraq marks the most serious attack on US troops since the start of the Israel-Iran proxy escalation last year.

The United Kingdom also issued an urgent advisory on Monday, instructing British nationals in Qatar to remain sheltered and avoid non-essential movement.

This wave of missile strikes follows Saturday’s “Worldwide Caution” alert issued by the US State Department — the first such global warning since the Hamas terror attack on Israel in October 2023. Officials now warn of the potential for mass demonstrations, terrorism, or retaliatory attacks targeting US citizens abroad.

Additionally:

  • Voluntary evacuations of American citizens from Israel and the West Bank began Saturday, with multiple flights to Athens already underway.

  • In Lebanon, US diplomats and family members were ordered to evacuate due to the “volatile and unpredictable security situation.”

  • Turkey-based US personnel have been told to avoid public exposure and travel to historically hostile areas, including Adana.

Meanwhile, hundreds of US citizens have managed to evacuate Iran via land routes, as the US has no formal embassy presence there. The Swiss embassy continues to represent American interests on the ground in Tehran.

This developing story will be updated as official confirmations and casualty assessments emerge.
