WESTMINSTER, UK — (June 16, 2025) — The City of Westminster is once again under fire from right-wing activists, as lobby group Christian Concern threatens legal action over the city’s annual display of more than 300 Progress Pride flags during Pride Month.

Branded a “woke spectacle” by Christian Concern, the Pride display — which stretches across Regent Street in the heart of London’s Piccadilly shopping district — is scheduled to return from June 22 to July 17, as approved by a planning order from Westminster City Council.

Christian Concern Pride Flag Lawsuit Sparks Political Clash

The conservative Christian organization accuses the Council of “indoctrinating Londoners,” claiming the Pride flag represents a “secular religious ideology” that imposes “trans ideologies” on the public — especially on “hundreds of thousands of children” who walk Regent Street during the summer.

“The Progress Pride flag is an attack on traditional beliefs about sex and gender,” said Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern. “It promotes a worldview that many in a democratic society do not accept.”

Williams also claimed the Council had previously breached planning guidelines by extending the duration of the flag display beyond its approved window and warned that the group would consider legal action again if the 2025 installation goes forward.

Westminster Stands Firm in Support of LGBTQ+ Inclusion

In response, Westminster Lord Mayor Paul Dimoldenberg raised the Progress PRIDE flag outside City Hall, affirming the city’s ongoing support for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Westminster will always be a welcoming city,” Dimoldenberg told JRL CHARTS LGBT Politics Europe. “We’re proud to celebrate our LGBTQIA+ residents, workers, and visitors during Pride Month and beyond.”

A Council spokesperson echoed the Mayor’s stance, stating:

“We support celebrations across all our diverse communities throughout the year. Pride has become an established fixture. These flags reflect a modern, cosmopolitan Westminster.”

Christian Concern’s Track Record on LGBTQ+ Rights

Christian Concern has previously attacked LGBTQ+ visibility in public institutions, including launching a petition to remove Pride flags in 2024, and lobbying the Church of England in 2022 to retract guidance designed to protect LGBTQ+ children in schools from bullying and discrimination.

Now, the group’s focus returns to Westminster, where the colorful Pride display stands as a symbol of equality, inclusion, and solidarity with LGBTQ+ Britons.

The Progress Pride Flag, created by artist Daniel Quasar and later updated in 2021 to include intersex representation, reflects the intersectional diversity of the modern LGBTQ+ community.

With the countdown to the June 22 launch underway, Westminster officials remain undeterred, as public support for the installation continues to grow — while Christian Concern’s Pride flag lawsuit threat adds fuel to an already intensifying culture war across the UK.
