BERLIN, GERMANY — (June 14, 2025) — Corporate sponsors are pulling back from European Pride celebrations this year, as organizers across the continent report a chilling ripple effect of the Trump administration’s aggressive dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

While the policy shift began in the United States, its consequences have stretched across borders. According to Context News, Pride organizers in Greece, Bulgaria, Estonia, Denmark, Germany, and other European nations report significant drops in corporate sponsorships — a move they attribute directly to what some are calling the “Trump effect.”

Trump Effect Goes Global

In January, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order ending all DEI-related initiatives within the federal government and pressuring private companies to follow suit. Even before his second inauguration, American giants such as McDonald’s, Walmart, Ford, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, and Lowe’s publicly scaled back or abandoned DEI efforts under mounting right-wing pressure.

Now, that same pressure is casting a long shadow over Europe. Gravity Research reported in April that 39% of corporations surveyed planned to reduce or eliminate Pride-related engagement in 2025, citing “political risk” and potential investigations under Trump’s new policies as leading concerns.

Major LGBTQ celebrations in New York City and San Francisco have already reported drastic budget shortfalls this season, but the financial blow has gone international. European Pride organizers warn that the loss of sponsor funding threatens programming and outreach. Community support is also at risk during a time when LGBTQ visibility and protection are under global scrutiny..

For many in the LGBTQ+ community, the sudden disinvestment by corporate sponsors — particularly those with a global presence — signals more than just a financial loss. It underscores a rising tide of political fear that threatens to undermine two decades of progress in corporate diversity and public Pride advocacy.
