DALLAS, TX — (June 10, 2025) — In a major move, Southern Baptists have voted to endorse a nationwide ban on gay marriage and to press for the reversal of Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage in 2015.

The vote was taken during the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S., with over 10,000 church representatives in attendance. Delegates overwhelmingly passed a resolution that calls on lawmakers to “pass laws that reflect the truth of creation and natural law — about marriage, sex, human life, and family.

The resolution also demands a rollback of sports betting and pushes for policies that promote childbearing. However, the centerpiece is a forceful statement opposing gay marriage, declaring that legislators must overturn any court decisions or laws that “defy God’s design for marriage and family.”

Notably, the marriage resolution passed without debate, reflecting the clear consensus among delegates.
