“For many years, we have campaigned tirelessly for justice for LGBTQ+ veterans, securing reparations and financial recognition for the appalling treatment they faced before 2000,” Gibson said.

He welcomed the Scottish Government’s move to protect veterans’ financial payments from benefit or taxation impacts, praising the extension to cover additional benefits such as council tax relief.

“We remain committed to identifying and supporting veterans who were unfairly discharged or dismissed from the military,” Gibson added. “Today’s news marks another important step in assisting those affected in Scotland.”

This development represents a significant milestone for LGBTQ+ veterans in Scotland and underscores the vital work of organizations like Fighting with Pride. As the UK government continues to address financial reparations, the Scottish Government’s extension of benefits protection ensures that veterans’ payments remain secure and fully recognized for their importance.
