ATLANTA, GA — (08-28-24) — Police are investigating a hate crime that took place on Wednesday against the Atlanta Black LGBTQ Pride Event.  The hanus hate crime that included leaving body waste on Pride Signs took place at the Starling Hotel in Midtown, Atlanta.

“It was just really devastating to have to come into the room and see, one, our things flipped over and ravaged,” Princess Jauan Durbin, the Youth Ambassador for Global Black Pride told Local Atlanta News First.

Surveillance videos show tables flipped over, displays destroyed, and PRIDE memorabilia strewn across the floor. Another surveillance video shows a pride flag that was defecated on by the domestic terrorist.

“A flag that represents the importance of our community and who we are,” said Durbin. “Words can’t describe.”

Atlanta Black Pride has been celebrated in the state since the early 90′s, and this was the first year the organization teamed up with Global Black Pride, putting the Atlanta PRIDE Event on the national stage.

The Black LGBTQ Pride Event kicked off on Tuesday and will run through Monday Sept. 2, 2024.
