WASHINGTON, D.C. — (08-16-24) — The Biden administration was dealt a blow by the US Supreme Court on Friday, when they ruled on a vote of 5-4 to block protections for LGBT students in fifty percent of the states.
The Biden’s administration asked the Supreme Court to intervene on an emergency basis in a lawsuit filed by the following right wing controlled states; Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Idaho, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia and an association of Christian educators. Naturally, ALL right wing conservatives who have waged a war against the LGBT community.
“These final regulations clarify Title IX’s requirement that schools promptly and effectively address all forms of sex discrimination,” said U.S. Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Catherine Lhamon when the rule was announced. “We look forward to working with schools, students and families to prevent and eliminate sex discrimination.” said Lhamon.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill called the SCOTUS ruling a federal overreach that would eviscerate Title IX, and slammed what she called Biden’s “extreme gender ideology.”
“This is all for a political agenda, ignoring significant safety concerns for young women students in pre-schools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across Louisiana and the entire country,” said Murrill of the federal ruling.
With more cases pending in lower courts, we are sure to see this issue come before the conservative packed Supreme Court during their next session.
