HYATTSVILLE, MD — (01-30-22) — We are sad to report that openly gay Mayor Kevin Ward of Hyattsville, was found dead earlier this week from a self inflicted gun shot wound.
Mayor Ward’s body was found by United States Park Police officers in Fort Marcy, a popular park in McLean, Virginia. It is also the same park that police found former White House counsel Vince Foster’s body who also had killed himself from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
The Mayor’s office released the following statement:
“Mayor Ward was a valued and trusted leader and a fierce advocate for all the people of Hyattsville. We are heartbroken at this loss and extend our deepest sympathy to the Mayor’s family,”
Ward’s reign as mayor was short lived as he first served as interim mayor for the city back in 2019 before being elected to the coveted position in 2021. He is survived by his husband and two sons.
