TELANGANA, HYDERABAD — (12-20-21) — History was made in the southern state of Telangana in India last Saturday when a gay couple exchanged their vows in front of family and friends.
New photos of the newlyweds have gone viral in India, giving many from LGBTQ community #CoupleGoals, inspiration to host more same-sex weddings in the country.
While India made history when it struck down its colonial-era law that criminalised gay sex in 2018, same-sex marriages have yet to be recognised in the country of more than 1 Billion people. Abhay Dange and Supriya Chakraborty got married in a ceremony officiated by Sophia David, a friend from Hyderabad who is well known in the LGBTQ community in Telangana.
