TEHRAN, Iran — (11-08-21) — Iran’s supreme court has ordered death sentences for adultery committed by a married 27-year-old and his 33-year-old lover after the wife of the man showed the court video evidence of the incident.

The 27 year-old’s wife, who presented police with video evidence of her husband’s gay sex act early this year, asked Iran’s supreme court to spare the gay couple from the death penalty.  But her father demanded that the death sentence be imposed and the supreme court agreed.

Iranian law states that if a victim’s family forgives the accused in a capital crime, the convict can be either pardoned or given a jail sentence.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch condemned the sentence.
