WASHINGTON D.C. — (01-21-21) — Trump installed GOP operative at the NSA Michael Ellis, has been relieved of duty pending an investigation now underway on how he was selected for the sensitive position and for also allegedly mishandling classified information.
A spokesperson for the National Security Agency told The Washington Post that NSA Director Gen. Paul Nakasone placed Ellis on leave pending an investigation by the Department of Defense’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) into the circumstances of his selection.
“Michael Ellis had been relieved of his duties because he’s the subject of an internal investigation by the Inspector General.”, said a pentagon official with knowledge of the investigation.
Michael Ellis is known as the former chief of staff for Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) before joining the Trump administration. He was installed last week, reportedly following an order from then-acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller.
