MOSCOW — (07-17-20) — Russia’s president Vladimir Putin is moving forward with targeting LGBTQ people over protests, same-sex marriage and gay adoption.
Putin promised during his last presidential campaign to crackdown on the LGBTQ community and now he is ready to put that promise to work.
“The bill ends the practice of marriage between persons of the same sex, including those who changed genders,” said Sen. Yelena Mizulina, co-author of the bill. The anti-LGBTQ bill also bans adoption by transgender people.
Earlier this month Russian citizens voted to approve a series of amendments to the country’s constitution, including one defining marriage as only between a man and woman. Needless to say Russia’s LGBTQ community wasn’t happy with the passage of their anti-LGBTQ amendments.
Putin even ordered the removal of the PRIDE flag that was hanging in front of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow in celebration of PRIDE month.
President Trump agreed with Putin and went a step further by ordering the removal of all rainbow pride flags from our embassies abroad during Pride Month. So much for Trump claiming that he supports LGBTQ rights.
