Adult novelty store chain in Summerville has captured the wrath of one retail business owner who has lashed out to the local media over the Badd Kitty adult novelty store’s plans to open a new location right across from her art studio.
The Badd Kitty adult novelty store chain who operates 5 locations in South Carolina and are hoping to open in May in the shopping center in the 600 block of Old Trolley Road, according to the fabulous regional manager Jill Bush of Badd Kitty.
Mellinie Milone owns Fire and Ice Art Studio in the same shopping center and is having serious issues with Badd Kitty moving in. “I was shocked, I was really shocked and kind of appalled,” Mellinie Milone told WTOL 11 on Friday. Milone was so upset upon learning about the move that he took to Facebook to spread the word of his displeasure.
“I got a lot of flack for that but I was just trying to bring that awareness to the people of our community that this is what’s going in here and maybe get some discourse about that,” said Milone.
The reason Milone is upset over the move is because the shopping center is mostly occupied by businesses that cater to children. On top of Milone’s art studio, there is church youth group center, a music center and a ballet studio.
“I don’t think that type of business should be right there where so many children are,” Milone WTOL 11.
Once the word hit the local media news chatter Summerville town Administrator Colin Martin said that Badd Kitty can legally be there because the store won’t sell pornographic DVDs or videos or adult magazines, only lingerie and toys.
Badd Kitty regional director Jill Bush told WTOL 11 that Badd Kitty will be a classy boutique stocking classy lingerie and promoting sexual health wellness.
Milone appears to not be convinced and states that she fears that the adult novelty storey will drive customers away from the shopping center however she has no plans on moving her business. “I’m in a five year lease here and I’m not like I can just up and move,” Milone told WTOL 11.
