Actor was nervous show’s audiences wouldn’t believe he could play straight

The sexy 25-year-0ld actor, Rob Mallard, who portrays the role of Ken Barlow’s son Daniel Osborne, on the British hit ITV Network show, had concerns about coming out because he plays a heterosexual on the ITV soap opera.

‘I never planned to keep it quiet that I was gay,’ Mallard told the Gay Times. ‘The only concern I had at first was if I’m with a female character, will an audience who knows I’m gay in real life believe it? ‘But that was just my own fears because I do believe they will.’ said Mallard.

According to Mallard, he originally came out at 18 to his friends and family who according to Mallard, weren’t thrilled about the news of his sexuality.

‘I was very fortunate,’ added Mallard. ‘I had a very non-plussed family and it’s become the subject of warm, friendly general humor over the years.’ said Mallard.

According to insiders of Coronation Street (ITV), Mallard’s character will have his first sexual scene on the show with Sinead Tinker next month. Mallard added…‘I grew up watching Coronation Street, so the chance to be in it, especially playing a part like Daniel, is very exciting.’ said Mallard.
